My Portfolio

Welcome to my portfolio!

This piece of artwork is called "A Night At The Beach." This piece is a blue monochromatic landscape of a beach; it has a beach chair, an umbrella, and a palm tree on the sand. The darkness of the blues with the light by the white moon, gives the picture a calming feeling. I used different tints and shades of blue to show the impact of the moon's light on the ocean as the water gets closer or farther. I also made each line of blue wavy, so that it can create the flow of movement between each wave. my inspiration for this painting was the memory of going to South Padre Beach with family and friends. My goal was to create a dark beach landscape with a bright moon that draws the eye to it. I feel that I accomplished this goal, because the moon is an unnoticeable piece in the artwork. While working on my project, I have learned how to use color to draw attention to a specific part of the artwork. I have to say that I surprised myself with what I can do. I am very proud of my artwork.

For this artwork, I used the technique of fumage to create a sky of dark clouds above grave yard gates. The sky is made of smoke from a candle and I drew the rest in pencil and traced over it with a Sharpie. I wanted to create a dark Halloween picture with this technique. I like that the smoke looks so light and wispy, and dark. Using fumage was interesting. It is really cool how the smoke coming off of a flame can make a cool picture.

In this piece of art, I used the ink blowing technique. I used black ink and watercolors to create a tree with leaves falling off. for this painting, I was inspired by Fall. I liked this technique because it creates abstract pictures, and I like watching the ink glide in different directions. This was a fun technique.

For this artwork, I used the technique of paper marbling. My goal for this, was to create a marbled perimeter around a blank rectangular space in the middle for writing. The colors still mixed in the middle, but I like it because the color looks gold. I like how this came out because the colors are so bright, the pattern looks nice, and I think it looks really good. I wanted to write a nice saying in the middle because I wanted something positive and uplifting to match the pattern of bright colors. I liked the technique of paper marbling. It was really cool how a lot of different patterns and designs could be made. I also found the technique very satisfying.

This piece of art is called "Imagination." The inspiration for my art is my hobbie of crocheting. I like how when crocheting, I can turn a bundle of yarn into a variety of different things. This is why I wrote the word "imagine" with the yarn. I used a warm background of oranges and yellows, then I used it's complementary color blue in order to add contrast. I put the yarn wrapped around a crochet hook, crocheting scissors, a sewing needle, and a button for the "i" in imagination to give a crafty feel to the painting. I like how my artwork turned out. I like all the different colors and I really like how the yarn turned out. It almost looks real. I am proud of this.

The name of this piece is called Family History. for this artwork, I was inspired by the Christmas tradition of my family going to El Paso where my family lives to spend time with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and more at the traditional parties and get togethers. I painted the mountains in the desert of El Paso with the mountain that has the iconic star on it, I painted the letters "El Paso" with lights on the letters to give a Christmas feeling, I added little spots of white above the mountains to represent snow because I have memories of when it snowed and I played in the snow with my sister and my cousins, and I added the fake snow inside the ornament to add a finishing touch. I really like how this turned out because since I didn't go to El Paso this year, I had a reminder of it on the Christmas tree.

For this artwork, I used watercolor with the technique of salt. I made wavy lines with my brush to create waves in the ocean, and different shades of blue. I drew a little group of clown fish swimming at different heights and sea weed coming on to the page. I liked the salt technique for the watercolor because it makes a cool effect like bubbles. I also like that watercolor creates a light feeling unlike paint that is dense and opaque.

I call this piece "Max". In this painting I used watercolor for the box and everything inside it, and I used a black pen to trace the flowers outside of the box. For this project the theme was to paint an animal that has meaning to you and break the frame of a box for a 3D look. Since I didn't know my spirit animal and no one in my family is familiar with their spirit animal or a favorite animal, I chose to do one of my dogs, Max, because I love my dogs so much and I thought it would be really cool if I could be able to paint him because he is a beautiful dog with so many different colors. In order to do this painting, I started and the background, then when I was painting the face, I started from his eyes and painted each section of the shades of the shades of brown as I went out. As my painting was coming along I was so impressed with myself that I was able to capture all of Max's shades and shadows and fine details. At first when I chose to paint my dog, I was a little nervous because I've never painted something so detailed with so much color, but now that I finished it, I am so amazed by myself because I chose to do something out of the ordinary for me and it was worth it. I surprised myself. I am very proud of this artwork.

This artwork is called The Floating Cross. for this painting I used acrylic paint. to create the illusion of the cross floating for the background, I used only triangles of different sizes and different angles. to meet the cubist requirement, I used different shades on each triangle. I also used different values on the cross to match the background. On top of the cross, I added white lilies but broken up into triangles so that they look more geometric and cubist. My inspiration for this piece was Easter because I started this project before Easter. This picture falls into the theme of nature because it has the lilies in it and it also represents human nature because religion is part of people's culture. I am proud of this painting because I am not used to cubism and abstract pictures. I usually try to make my art as realistic as I can, but I really like this artwork. It is different than any other I have done and it came out really good!
